A South African dude, an artist and free thinker. What's new? I'm stable but fucked at the same time, I'm impulsive. I'll try any thing once, twice if I like it... and when I get excited, should I scream or have an orgasmn? This blog is my pure rant, getting the shit off my chest. It's really masturbation for my mind, take it or leave it!

Ten reasons why poker is better than sex
October 02, 2006

The babes at ChicksnChips.com got together and came up with 10 reasons why action on the felt is so much better than the action of getting felt up!

10) A game of poker can last for hours

9) Winning at poker always feels good

8) You know exactly how big a stack you have to work for

7) If you don't like the cards you've been dealt, you can throw them in the muck

6) The Chips don't lie

5) You can always learn how to play poker better

4) When things start to go bad, you can pick up your remaining chips and leave

3) Beign tight-aggressive is a good thing

2) When you stroke your chips, they don't complain about your technique

1) Everyone expects you to fake it on the felt

I think these little ladies have perhaps been looking in the wrong places then!

Poker Hand Rankings
February 17, 2006

The basis of all Poker knowledge is built upon the hand rankings. Once these are understood you'll find a whole world of possibilities and game variations will be opened to you.

Take a moment to commit these to memory then take your new found understanding to the tables and there you'll begin to appreciate why Poker is the worlds' most popular card game.

Below, the hand rankings are displayed in an order of highest ranking hand (1. Royal Flush) to the lowest ranking hand (10. High Card). Five of a kind has been numbered 0 because it is only possible when wild cards are being used. If wild cards are being used, five of a kind is often considered the highest hand.

Poker Terminology

Ace-High
A five-card hand that has no hand combinations (flush, straight, pair etc), but contains one Ace.

All-in When you bet all your money on a hand, either voluntarily in the belief that you have the strongest hand, or because do not have enough money to cover the full amount bet by someone else. You then contend for the pot in an amount proportional to what you contributed.

Ante
The minimum bet that players must place into the pot by each player before betting begins. The ante is placed before any cards are dealt.

Online Poker Etiquette

When playing poker online you're not sitting face-to-face with other players at a table, but there are still points of etiquette that you should observe to help ensure that everyone has a pleasant playing experience.
Use the Chat feature politely - no swearing at the other players, or use of bad language in general. Do not use the Chat feature to badger other players or to criticize their playing abilities.
Do not discuss your cards with other players while the hand is still being played - even if you have folded.
Only use English when chatting.
If you need to take a break, click the "Sit Out" button or option so that your hands will automatically be folded.
Refrain from constantly discussing your hands after the fact, especially if you have folded and are tempted to discuss what could have happened had you stayed in the pot. You are the only one interested in this and it is irrelevant to the other players.
Do not send repeated messages to a player who is not replying - remember that many players play with the Chat feature disabled, so as not to be distracted.
Do not point out mistakes to other players, or gloat over having won a hand
Do not become so distracted while chatting that you hold up the game - remember that you are there first and foremost to play, not to chat.
If you are playing at more than one table, be sure to pay attention so that you don't hold up the game at any of the tables you are playing at.

Game Types: 5 Card Stud

Five-Card Stud is much the same as Seven-Card Stud, except that each player receives 5 cards, only one of which is dealt face-down. It is an easy game to learn, but requires skill and awareness to play well. The number of visible cards that each player displays makes it easier to judge the relative and potential strength of your hand. Like 7-Card Stud it pays to remember the cards that other players were displaying before they folded, so as to better be able to estimate the chances of the card you need being dealt in the later rounds. There are four rounds of betting, one after each card is dealt, so fairly large pots can accumulate. As with most forms of poker, patience is the key.

Game Types: 7 Card Stud

Seven-Card Stud is one of the most popular forms of Poker throughout the world, but requires patience and skill. You especially need to know when to hold and when to fold, because with the number of cards and betting rounds it can get expensive to stay in the pot - and even more so if you aren't holding a good enough hand at the showdown. 7-Card Stud pots can get quite large, as the maximum bets double after the third round of betting.

Game Types: Omaha

Omaha Hi is played in a similar way to Texas Hold'em, except that nine cards are used, creating a wider range of possible combinations. This makes for a more intricate game where you have to really be on your toes. The rules themselves are also related to Texas Hold'em, except for the fact that Omaha deals four pocket cards (rather than two), and the showdown only uses two pocket cards and three communal cards (rather then a choice of any combinations of communal and pocket cards).

Game Types: Texas Hold'em

Texas Hold'em is the most popular form of poker played in poker rooms today, both land-based and online. As the chosen game of the World Series of Poker Finals, it is the game by which ultimate poker skill is measured.
Texas Hold'em is a fast-paced, exciting type of poker, with lots of betting action. Each player is dealt 2 cards, and then 5 communal cards are dealt to the board, over the course of 3 betting rounds. This means that all the players at the table can see 5 out of the 7 possible cards that everyone will use to build their strongest hand for the showdown. Contrast this with 7-Card Stud where each person only has two cards visible, and 5 cards cannot be seen by the other players. The upshot is that it is easier to predict what hands your opponents could be holding. This, on the one hand, is an advantage, but also means that it can be harder to bluff. This makes for a fast, aggressive game in which you'll need to know your stuff to survive.

Poker Game Betting Limits

There are 3 different possible types of betting limits:
Fixed Limit
Pot Limit
No Limit
Fixed Limit

In a fixed limit game, the betting limits are constant per betting round. Typically the bet limit for the initial rounds of betting is set at the lower limit, and for the later rounds, at the upper limit.
